pictorial lines

Artist statement - The first composition consisting of the first five photos is an array of lines. The lines go strait, diagonal and horizontal but all go in the same direction. The idea of this is that it portrays simplicity and focuses on one aspect of the photo. Arrangement of lines also has a mysterious feel to them yet a very basic composition. The next five are lines leading to a subject. This means that the lines... you guessed it! lead to a specific focal object in the photo. The first photo is lines leading to a umbrella holder. Another is a railway leading to my homie. This composition focuses on leading the viewers eyes to the centerpiece. Giving off a subtle vibe. next are decorative lines. These lines paint a pattern to the viewer or might I say fancy lines. These lines design the photo  to look simple yet holding many details at the same time. This composition of decorative lines makes it so if the lines are taken away there is nothing, no lines.

Leading lines - The first five use the concept of leading lines. This type of composition is where one can see depth in the photo being led down a path. These photos involve lines that lead the viewer down a street way, sidewalk and almost anywhere with depth. One can see the lines narrowing as farther down the photo. This is the concept of leading lines. In the first couple photos, the lines are what brings leading lines into play. The trees in the third photo create the leading lines affect. In the last photo one can see the brick tiling to the right getting narrower which portrays depth in the photo.

Depth staging -  The next five photos use elements in the photo to portray depth. In the next five, two objects are used to show depth. This is created by have one object in the front of the photo and one in the back. This gives off an affect of depth in this composition. The first photo of depth staging uses lights to portray depth. This is because one element in the image such as the front light bulb makes the light bulb in the back look smaller which portrays depth. The last photo and all of them in particular lead the viewer into the back of the frame, the object in the foreground makes the object in the background smaller. This composition of depth staging creates that affect.

Repetition - Repetition uses an array of the same objects in the photo from foreground to background. It is like depth staging just using more of the same elements. My first repetition image uses desserts of the same type from front to back to portray depth. I use elements such as nails in the second photo that go front to back to create the element of depth. Trash cans in the fourth photo which is the same object creates repetition and depth. The last photo uses umbrellas in the courtyards lined up to create the affect of repetition and depth.
