Slo Mo 1 Eli

Artist statement -

three techniques I used - Out of the 77 photos I took, I chose 7 to encapsulate the assignment and what it asked for. I lowered the exposure to make a darker image and capture more light which was the assignment goal. I also lowered the frame rate to capture more frames. Using an adjustable focus, I got some sharp images and some not so sharp images like the last image in this list. I shook my camera in certain ways to get a certain image. Someone would stand with two phones and shake them while I and someone else could just take the image and in would look like a painting of light.

my experience - It was a good experience because I became more adept with the big cameras and I was able to learn how to take different photos and use the given tools on the camera. This was probably the most fun assignment I have had.

Reflection on my best results - I was able to capture most of the technique type of images I was asked to capture. I used all the techniques to get some sharp images and some to get less sharp images with less exposure and some with more. Some with more frames per second and some with less. One image I like a lot is the last one because of all the color. I also like the 4th one down because of its simplicity and subtleness yet interesting to look at.

DBL Exposure

Artist statement - For this composition I blended two images together to make one cohesive image. I didn't add borders because I thought it would take away from the authenticity of the image. I used a black and white tool to some degree in some of the images but in some I thought color would be a good way to go. The character in some of these is laurel, Ozzie or myself and some are just two photos with no subjects overlapping. One of the main parts of this assignment and the last couple ones was to make compositions b&w. I believe that this is supposed to blend the image together with one another and not to make any clashing aspects.

Window Reflections by Eli

Artist statement -

Approach - The way I approached this project was to find a window/glass/mirror ect, or small body of water to take a picture of. In most of the reflections I placed my camera close to the window on purpose. This was to give a nice looking affect for the photo. A good example of this is in the second photo down. I also took photos of puddles and tried to angle my camera so that I could get a reflection in the water. A good example of this is the 7th photo down or the last photo.

Results - The results I got were very rewarding and better than I thought. Out of the 40 some odd photos I took, some of them came out looking really great. The up close camera to the window reflection affect looks really interesting and innovative. And I could find reflections of objects coming off of puddles which looks really cool.

How do reflections communicate - Reflections communicate in a strange but subtle way. They mirror your world slightly differently from what it truly is. Reflection communicate a type of photography that pulls the viewer into the photo. Reflections also communicate a sort of illusion to the minds eye too.

Multi Frame Story Telling

Artist Statement - The way I approached all these photos was to find a common balance among them.  I also tried to find a theme and use it in the photos. One can note that the fourth photo evokes a feeling of maybe, looking into the future and may evoke the theme of hope. In the third photo I tried to create the theme of time passing by. The way I made these compositions was to pick two or three photos thinking about their cohesiveness at the same time. I then used the sepid style in pic monkey to make a timeless feel to the photo. I then used a framing method to make the image look old in a way, I didn't do this with all of them. In the last photo, because all the photos are from the streets and outside this made a cohesive composition. The feeling I was trying to evoke from that was simplicity and living ones life their way. The first photo encapsulates a view on life in a focused way. With the first photo I was also trying to solve the idea of meaninglessness towards the world and that everything has a purpose.

Draft 4 fall photography

Artist statement - In this composition I had my models gaze into the distance as to be thinking about something. I tilted my camera so I could get a large portion of the image be the sky. The point of this was to have the face taking up the sky so it wouldn't get covered up by buildings. This makes it easier  to see. Like my last draft I made it so this one had a lighter feel to it. The recipe has been the same the whole time. Yet I don't have the technology to make jasper James level work. I still try my best.

Draft fall 3 Photography

artist statement - In this composition I further added on to my comps of Jasper's style. This time I tried to have all the models look into the distance in front of a cloudy background. This gave the composition a mysterious feel to it and a glum one too. The way I put this together or the recipe was to take a portrait and place it over a background image. Then once I did this, I erased the background on the portrait image to make a clean looking image. I then Faded the image to blend the two together. I also worked on letting there be a lot of sky in the background so the face of the models wouldn't be hard to see over the city background.  The mood of this piece is laid back and relaxed and this can also be seen in the my classmates faces, especially Jackson's.

Draft 2 Jasper James double exposure

Artist statement:

Goals - The goals of this assignment was to capture a state of emotion, portrait and background in this composition. I tried to blend the background with the portrait so the portrait would be in the sky mostly the face. Another goal was to come close to the level of perfection that Jasper James double exposure has while using just a compact camera. I also tried my best to use the eraser application in picmonkey to take away as much of the background in the portrait as possible.

Tone/vibe - The tone of these photos is filled with one emotion. Some can be seen as a subtle happiness to pure confidence. I tried to keep a vibe of hope and someone fading into the future and looking to the future or the viewer of the photo.

Recipe - The recipe of all these photos is two images blended together. One image is a background of the city including the sky which is where I place the portrait. This go around I tried to take pictures of only the face, some include a little bit of the chest. I then enlarged the portrait to fit in the sky and blended them together. On the background I took up the brightness, lowered the darkness and took up the contrast.
